and it was surprisingly good. The only thing I can liken it too is Mamma Mia for 80s rock. It was obviously going to be pretty cheesy, and it had like Russel Brand and people in it, and it ended with Don’t Stop Believin’, but it was still enjoyable and watchable, and I reckon I’d go to see it again.
But there was one thing about it that threw me off. It was advertised as a 12A film (for American followers than means “you can watch it alone if over 12 years old, and you can watch it at a bit lower age if you have an adult with you”). This film was definitely not a 12A.
It was really pushing on 18 in parts (R or possibly X rating, for our American followers). There were numerous scenes in a stripper bar, with very sexualised imagery and almost pure nudity, as well as the fact that Tom Cruise wore barely more than a fancy jockstrap at any point in the film, and his nipples were almost constantly on screen.
There were also multiple near-sex scenes, by which I mean basically porn with dry-humping; a lot of lust, alcohol, drugs and leather; some mild bondage and mild spanking; and a hell of a lot of kissing.
It’s fairly safe to say that whoever rated that film was probably deaf and blind if they thought that merited 12A.
Personally, I have no problem with hot girls walking around with very little on, I just feel a little sorry for any 12 year olds watching, who must have been feeling a little out of their depth.
